Calcium is an exogenous inorganic mineral element and is one of the most abundant mineral elements in the animal body, accounting for about 0.5% of the animal’s weight. Calcium is the main component of the bones and eggshells of the livestock and poultry. At the same time, it maintains the normal excitability of muscles and nerves, reduces the permeability of capillaries and participates in the coagulation of blood, regulates metabolism and activates enzymes. Among them, the content of calcium in the eggshell is >35%. During the egg laying period, 60% of the eggshell is directly supplied by the feed, and the remaining calcium is supplied by the bone calcium, and the latter is supplemented by the feed. It is also involved in blood coagulation, together with sodium and potassium to maintain the normal function of the heart and muscles and the acid-base balance.
Laying Hens, Pigeons
Gypsum as a feed additive can increase the laying rate of laying hens. Grind the raw gypsum into fine powder, feed it according to the ratio of 1.0%~1.5% of the diet, or feed 0.5~3.0g, and eat it freely, which can increase the egg production rate by 12%. Gypsum can accelerate moulting. During natural moulting or artificial moulting, adding gypsum as described above can accelerate feather growth and shorten moulting time.
Long-haired Rabbits

Pig
Adding 1.5% raw gypsum powder to the piglet diet can increase the piglet weight by about 6kg and save feed. A Japanese pig research institute developed a new type of pig feed additive using computer formula. Its composition is (by weight): zeolite powder 45%, salt 10%, calcium sulfate 14.4%, and other 30.6%. The additive was added to the pig diet at a ratio of 5% to 8%. The increase in pig weight was 30% to 50% higher than that of the control group, and the feed consumption was reduced by about 30%. Cow
CaSO4(Calcium sulphate) as a calcium source has the effect of increasing the calcium content of the cow’s milk source, increasing the milk production, and adding with the salt (sodium chloride) has the effect of improving the appetite of the cow.
Aquaculture
The main application in aquaculture is calcium sulphate hemihydrate (calcined gypsum), which can be used as an aggregate of fish food, and can also be used as raw material for producing ammonia water. The effect is better than the commercially available ammonia water, and the cost is saved. Green safe. Raw gypsum is used less in aquaculture, mainly as a processing material for cryopreservation of crab and shrimp. The principle is that gypsum can inhibit the nerve stress reaction to a certain extent, reduce the vascular permeability, and thus inhibit the activity of crab and shrimp.
Other
Calcined gypsum can be used as an additive to add chicken manure feed, but it should also be noted that when using chicken manure feed, it is better to add antibiotics such as oxytetracycline and salt, baking soda and other food additives.
